Abstract :

Muwa══┐ʾ of Im┐m Mu╒ammad possesses a vital significance in the discipline of ╒ad┘th texts (mut┴n al-╒ad┘th). We have sixteen scripts of this earliest work on ╒ad┘th, one of which is ascribed to Imam Mu╒ammad bin ╓asan al-Shayb┐ni. Along with his personal viewpoints, al-Shayb┐ni has also recorded the opinions of his two great teachers, Imam Ab┴ ╓an┘fah and Imam M┐lik. In this way the reader has the opportunity to understand the juristic approaches of both of them at the same time. Various scholars of ╒ad┘th have written commentaries on this work, such as ‘All┐mah Ibr┐h┘m Shah┘r Beriz┐da, Mull┐ ‘Ali al-Q┐ri and ‘All┐mah ‘Abdul ╓ay Lakhnawi. The explanatory commentary written by ‘All┐mah ‘Abdul ╓ay is considered to be precise and comprehensive of all the rest. In this article, the short biographical sketch of ‘All┐mah Lakhnawi is presented alongwith evaluation of his famous academic contribution: al-Ta’l┘q al-Mumajjad. Author(s):ڈاکٹر نورحیات خان

Abstract :

Inter-faith harmony and tolerance, at present are very important and need of the hour. Some realities and established dogmatic differences over the beliefs in Oneness of God and the Prophethood have, however, made achievement of the goal a difficult task, if not impossible. Although having faith in One God (monotheism) is a common factor in the three Abrahamic religions-repeatedly been mentioned in the scriptures- can serve as a shared base for religious harmony. Yet alterations and distortions in the Divine and Prophetic teachings has created several obstacles in reaching the objective and has espoused the ugly face of extremism and terrorism playing with lives of thousands of people in our times. The present paper discusses those obstacles and issues related to it.

Abstract :

Honour killing is the homicide of a member of a family or social group alleged to have brought dishonour upon the family or community. The killing is viewed as a way to restore the reputation and honour of the family. In Balochistan, honour killing is known locally as siy┐h-k┐ri. Siy┐h-k┐ri is a compound word literally meaning Siy┐h as black and K┐ri as woman/female. Originally, Siy┐h and K┐ri were metaphoric terms for adulterer and adulteress, but it has come to be used with regards to multiple forms of perceived immoral behaviour. Once a woman is labeled as a K┐ri, family members consider themselves to be authorized to kill her and the co-accused (Siy┐hk┐r) in order to restore family honour. In the majority of cases, the victim of the attacks is female with her attackers being male members of her family or community. Siy┐h-K┐ri is an act of murder, in which a person is killed for his or her actual or perceived immoral behaviour. Such "immoral behaviour" may take the form of alleged marital infidelity, refusal to submit to an arranged marriage, demanding a divorce, perceived flirtatious behaviour and being raped. Suspicion and accusations alone are many times enough to defile a family’s honour and therefore enough to warrant the killing of the woman. The present article throws light on the subject from Islamic perspective.

The present article focuses on a small portion of Tafs┘r-e- Kab┘r, i.e. the portion in which different names of the Qur’┐n have been discussed. The status of Co-leading in prayers of male and female in Islam is a debatable issue nowadays. Thus Dr. Amina practically adopted this riw┐yah and led the prayer of Jumu’ah in New yark. Abstract :

The phenomenon of sectarianism and religious extremism in various forms and manifestations is present in our society. There are internal as well as external factors. The most important among the internal factors of sectarianism and religious extremism are the extreme positions of religious parties and preachers, personality-cults, egoism, sectarian bias, the concept of being the only righteous person, considering the others as misguided, converted, atheists and infidels, disrespecting religious exponents and figures of the other sects, delivering provocative and inflammatory speeches and spreading such literature. These factors are contributing to the spread of sectarianism and religious extremism. Another important reason behind the spread of sectarianism and religious extremism is the ineffective role of the moderate religious political parties and elites for not countering the exterimists’ narrative which encourage them. Besides, liberal forces that target Islam, moderate religious political parties and elites, further add fuel to religious extremism. To eliminate extremism it is important to not only enforce stringent laws, but also to address the reasons behind it. This paper attemptsto highlight the factors behind religious extremism and recommends ways and means to address the menace.

Abstract :

“Death” has been an important theme of exploration in religions, philosophies and among common men as well. All agreed on its inevitability but anticipation and attitude towards acceptance of death has been discussed differently in philosophy and religion. The discourse on death has been an important aspect of Western philosophical tradition since ancient times which is clearly lacking in modern philosophy except in Schopenhauer’s pessimism and then again noticeable in the existentialist enterprise. However, among existentialists, Heidegger is distinguished by treating death as his personal commitment. By avoiding any transcendental explanation, Heidegger presented an ontological inquiry into the nature of death. Interwoven with complicated terminology, Heidegger personalized death with freedom to choose one’s way of dying which he characterized as authentic-being-towards-death. His emphasis on freedom gave the human valiant godly status, fearless, making new discoveries, inventions and defining his way of dying. His fellow existentialists, such as Sartre, criticized his philosophy of death. On the other hand, the nature of death being discussed in Islam is different. Islam personalizes death but gives the authority of ceasing life in the hand of God. By emphasizing the importance of the belief on Judgment Day, Islamic teachings hold a person accountable for his/her deeds before God and provokes him/her to be moderate and pious in this world which will end one day. 13) A Critical Comparison on the Origin of Cosmos in Islam, Christianity and Modern Science
Author(s):Dr. Mahfuth Khamis Amafua

Abstract :

People acknowledge the effort of Modern science in bringing cosmos into reality. The research made in space has made what was once considered impossible possible and has opened the cosmos wide for further investigations and discoveries. Modern western empirical science has surely been the most impressive intellectual development since the 16th century. But this cannot of course negate the role of religion which has been around for much longer than that and is still flourishing to date despite a sustained complain to stamp it out of human orbit. Hence, none can deny the contributions of theology represented by religion on the one hand, and that of modern science on the other, since time immemorial. Even though there are many important issues and questions in this discourse, this entry concentrates on just a few. Perhaps the most salient question is whether the relation between religion and science is characterized by conflict or by concord. Of course it is possible that there are conflict and concord, conflict along certain dimensions, concord along others. This is so because religion and science are definitive contemporary discussion of many issues surrounding our understanding of God and religious truth and experience in the scientific age. This is a significantly expanded and freshly revised version of Religion in an Age of Science. In order to narrow down the arguments the researcher deems it necessary to discuss only three parties highlighted in the above title. The main
